Leominster Transmissions Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
-
- Does my transmission need to be rebuilt?
- Most of the transmissions in today's vehicles are computer controlled. Therefore we first need to scan your vehicle's computer for trouble codes and available data in order to determine what is the cause of the problem. In approximately 50% of the cases, the vehicle only needs a minor repair, such as a solenoid, sensor, adjustment or electrical repair.

- How much does it cost to rebuild my transmission?
- If your transmission needs to be rebuilt, cost varies considerably depending on the type of vehicle, type of transmission and the degree of worn and damaged parts. We can estimate the cost of repair after diagnosis.
|
-
- How long will it take to repair?
- The length of repair depends on what the problem is. After we diagnose the problem, we can let you know how long it will take.

-
- How often should I service my transmission?
- Refer to your owners manual, however you should check the fluid level regularly and change fluid as soon as you notice any discoloration or burnt smell to the fluid.
|
-
- Should I have the transmission flushed or serviced conventionally?
- The most important part of a transmission fluid change is the ability to inspect the transmission pan for signs of wear and to replace the filter. The flush method does not allow the pan to be inspected and the filter is not replaced. I prefer the conventional method where the pan is inspected and the filter is replaced.
